Cervical cancer screening Posted or Updated on 9 Jun 2025

A reminder to book your cervical cancer screening.

It’s one of the best ways to prevent cervical cancer.

  • It should take less than 5 minutes
  • Most women think it’s painless
  • It’s usually done by a female nurse and you can request this.

It’s never too late to book your screening.

It could save your life.

To book visit www.nhs.uk/conditions/cervical-screening/how-to-book

Cervical screening saves lives

Getting your smear test (cervical screening) could save your life

  • It is offered to women and people with a cervix aged 25 to 64 years old
  • If you are eligible, you will be invited every 3 years until you are 49, and then every 5 years from the age of 50 to 64

Your GP practice can guide you through what happens at a cervical screening appointment.

When you get your invite, book your appointment through the NHS App or contact your GP practice
